UNTAMED TAKEOVER | ? by @filipe_deandrade A Tufted Tube Blenny is on the search for a tasty meal. Also known as “the fish with a bad haircut” these beautiful creatures take up residence in abandoned worm tubes and are incredible to see on a dive. UNTAMED TAKEOVER | How @Filipe_DeAndrade Got The Shot: Cocos Island is famous for its variety of shark species. To show this shark haven, I wanted to capture hammerhead and Galapagos in the same shot. Sometimes you have to let the wild be wild. Video by @ottowhitehead | Did you know that there are more tortoises living in the Seychelles than there are people? Aldabra Atoll is home to most of the island nation’s giant tortoises, numbering more than 100,000. This also makes it one of the last few island ecosystems that is still dominated by reptiles. Giant tortoises were a common sight on many Indian Ocean islands until they were exploited by sailors that loaded them up on their ships to provide fresh meat for long voyages. The remoteness of Aldabra Atoll and the long-term conservation efforts by the Seychelles government and the Seychelles Island Foundation have ensured that this island’s population continues to thrive. • • • #animals #animalnews #wildlife #nature #animalsofinstagram #tortoise #seychelles #sif #Aldabra #conservation | © instagram.com/natgeowild

Jellyfish paralyze prey using neurotoxins in their tentacles, but the turtle does not seem to be affected. It closes its eyes and uses its flipper as a shield from the jellyfish’s stinging tentacles. Green sea turtles are endangered. Their main threat is overexploitation of eggs from the beaches they are laid on. These guys live on the island of Sri-Lanka and are some of the most relaxed monkeys in water. The word "toque" refers to a hat worn in Europe in the 13th-16th centuries, and they were given the name because of their little fringes of hair which do look like little hats! Although these monkeys are found around Sri-Lanka (there are three sub-species), they have been classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List, mainly due to habitat loss across the island! These guys are so awesome they were the subjects of a recent @disneynature film called Monkey Kingdom. Shot with @stevewinterphoto and @kulu_safaris

Video by @alexbraczkowskiEvery morning before the crack of dawn, about 20 wallabies and a couple of Eastern grey kangaroos gather on a sandy beach in Cape Hillsborough, North Queensland. We filmed these guys sunning themselves, scrapping over some food and enjoying a snack. Cape Hillsborough has become famous for its beach loving kangaroos and wallabies which feed on seaweed, small seed pods and a seed mix. Kangaroos and wallabies are found everywhere from mangroves to commercial cattle farms, but seeing them on a beach is a little rarer. You can see this behaviour in west Australia, north Stradbroke island and here in Cape Hillsborough! @natgeowild @natgeo @natgeocreative @visitmackay @visitqueensland @australia @queensland @discoverqueensland @tropicalnorthqueensland @uniofqld #thisisqueensland #mackay #kangaroo #meetmackayregion #CapeHillsboroughNationalPark #wildlifeshooters #roosofinstagram | © instagram.com/natgeowild

Black tip sharks in shallow water in Fakarava, Tahiti.•Blacktip sharks are sometimes spotted above the water. They leap above the surface, rotate several times, and splash down on their backs. This dramatic display is sometimes part of a stealthy feeding method they use to strike at schools of bony fishes near the water surface. The sharks hurl themselves at the fish from below. Blacktip sharks supplement their diets with skates, stingrays, squids, and some crustaceans. These sharks have also been known to follow fishing boats and feed on discarded bycatch.•#SharkFest continues tonight with an all-new jawesome special, #SharkSwarm, 8/7c! | © instagram.com/natgeowild

A Thomson's gazelle makes a lucky escape from a nile crocodile. The other gazelle--not so lucky.•Gazelles typically frequent wide-open spaces and plains, where they browse on grasses, shoots, and leaves. Open plains make them visible to predators like cheetahs or wild dogs, but gazelles are fleet of foot. The Thomson's gazelle can reach speeds of 40 miles an hour. Some gazelle species eschew the grasslands for mountainous landscapes or even deserts. A live view from this morning's commute to work. (Just kidding!)•For wildebeest, the yearly migration across the Serengeti can mean life or death. Predators such as crocodiles and big cats lie in wait as the herd of more than one million makes its 1,000-mile loop across the savannas of Tanzania and Kenya. #DidYouKnow Both black and white rhinoceroses are actually gray. They are different not in color but in lip shape. The black rhino has a pointed upper lip, while its white relative has a squared lip. The difference in lip shape is related to the animals' diets. Black rhinos are browsers that get most of their sustenance from eating trees and bushes. They use their lips to pluck leaves and fruit from the branches. White rhinos graze on grasses, walking with their enormous heads and squared lips lowered to the ground. | Video by @runningwildmedia | © instagram.com/natgeowild

We fondly named this curious fellow, Toadie, after saving him one winter. The ground was frozen, which meant he could not hibernate, so I made a home for him using an aquarium and fed him crickets from the pet store all winter. We released him in the spring and I later found him enjoying our backyard pond. I love nature and wildlife, so photographing these moments is almost instinctual.
